On July 5, 2012, the Broken Promises Coalition became aware of one couple?s extraordinary efforts to be together through the years and believe that it is a testament to the commitment of love and marriage, emphasizing a need for bridal jewelry to be held to a higher standard.
According to a report from the Huffington Post, the couple currently resides in Philadelphia where Ben is completing his graduate studies and Emma makes a two-hour commute to Manhattan, where she works. But for a couple that spent the majority of their relationship long distance and recently exchanged vows ? home is wherever the two of them are together. ?Ben wakes up with her at the crack of dawn to make her coffee and drive her to the train station, and has dinner ready when she comes home at night,? states the Huffington Post. This bond was emphasized when Ben presented Emma with a very special and touching wedding gift ? a video he?d created just for her set to the song ?Home? by Edward Sharp & the Magnetic Zeros.
For a couple that spends the majority of their day apart while they pursue their individual educational and professional paths, home becomes much more symbolic that four walls and a roof and a wedding ring becomes much more symbolic than a piece of jewelry.
?This story is a touching example of a couple?s ability to having a meaningful relationship full of love by going above and beyond what the ordinary couple would have to do. Love and commitment like this emphasizes a need for bridal jewelry to be held to a higher standard that retailers and manufacturers of tungsten carbide rings are not accepting accountability for. We would be heartbroken to hear that Ben and Emma ? or any couple - experienced something like having a symbol of their marriage break ? everyone deserves a ring as strong as their commitment,? says Clay Darrohn, Broken Promises representative.
Broken Promises is a consumer advocacy group dedicated to raising awareness about the brittle nature of tungsten carbide rings that are often misrepresented by manufacturers and retailers in the wedding industry. The coalition is currently gathering signatures for a petition from individuals who believe that marriage and love are lifetime commitments and believe that retailers and manufacturers must be held accountable and take action when it comes to telling the truth about rings that will not withstand that lifetime.
