How to Safely Design Beautiful Easter Eggs For Cheap
Coloring eggs for Easter is one of many fun activities that children enjoy, but should be closely supervised by an adult. This Easter tradition has been around for many years and kids look forward to coloring eggs every year. Here are step by step instructions that you can use to creatively design beautifulEaster eggs with your children... and you may have these items already, so you may not need to purchase anything?
Things you will need: hard boiled eggs, assorted food colorings, wax crayon, white vinegar, hot water, tongs, one large spoon, newspaper, paper towels, 1 bowl for each color, cooking oil, empty egg carton, disposable plastic gloves, soft cloth
INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1
Place fresh eggs in a large pot covered with cold water and boil for approximately 12 minutes. Remove pot from burner, use tongs to carefully remove eggs from pot and place in bowl of cold water. Cold water will stop the cooking process and eggs will be easy to peel when ready to eat.
Step 2
First, place newspaper over area that you will be coloring your eggs, to avoid messy spills, etc. Fill each bowl half full of hot water, don?t overfill.
Step 3
Put on plastic gloves. Place 2 to 3 drops of each color food coloring in each bowl of water. Now add 1/2 tablespoon of vinegar to water and stir lightly.
Step 4
You can place the boiled eggs in each cup for desired colors. Or, you can use wax crayon to make fun designs of your choice before submerging in colored water. Note, the longer you leave the eggs in the colored water, the darker the color. You can also mix various colors to make new colors if you wish.
Step 5
Remove eggs from color with large spoon and pat dry with paper towel. Place a small amount of cooking oil on a cloth and gently polish each egg (being careful not to crack) for a glossy finish.
Step 6
Place finished eggs in an empty egg cartoon and refrigerate until ready to eat or use in Easter egg hunt or other fun games. But remember to return eggs to the refrigerator when done.
Tips and Warnings:
*use glass bowls or disposable plastic cups instead of your plastic bowls to prevent staining
*refrigerate eggs immediately after coloring
*Never allow children to operate stove alone
*don?t use cracked eggs for coloring but can eat without color
*use mild detergent and water to safely remove food coloring from hands, clothes, etc.
*Can also purchase Easter coloring kit from store instead of food coloring, if you prefer
